Mikhajlovka (1852–1862) | Peterhof Road

When I visited this place a few years ago, parts of it looked almost abandoned, but actually it was a functioning pension (sort of a Soviet-style B&B). I spent the night there and rather enjoyed it. The palace was built as a summer dacha for Grand Prince Mikhail Nikolaevich. Right after the revolution it was turned into a children’s labor commune called “Red Dawn”. In 2003 Mikhajlovka was given over to Putin’s administration. He’s actively rebuilding many places along the Peterhof Road, turning them into govenment residences, conference facilities for foreign dignitaries and so forth.
