We’ll end our tour on the roof, an area that never quite found its stride. Originally this was a heliport, when the 1950’s fantastic visions of the future included an aero-taxi service, which would whisk guests between Dallas, Ft. Worth, and the local airfields with unprecedented speed and ease. That unfettered optimism was eventually replaced with a tiny hot tub on a scorching Dallas rooftop.
I can’t decide whether anyone actually got in there, or whether it was constantly crawling with 710 rooms worth of guests.
Incidentally, I’m not sure if the heliport was ever used beyond a few test flights and having a helicopter tethered there opening day.
